Cedarwood Products is the exclusive distributor of Pacific Coast Cedar Products.

Mill certification

Teal Jones: Teal is a QAI mill. That means they have a third-party inspection service come through to make sure they are upholding their own standards of quality that they have set for their product line.

Pacific Coast Cedar Products: Pacific Coast is a member of the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau (CSSB) which has been the recognized authority for Cedar Shakes and shingles since 1915 and upholds the industry standard for quality and grading rules. Bureau mills are subject to random inspections to ensure they are meeting bureau standards consistently.

Grading

Teal Jones: Teal grades their R&R box shingles using an A-B-C model that conforms to CSA Standard 0188.2 for Eastern White Cedar, not the industry standard for Western Red Cedar. This allows for flat grain in the wood, which is standard for Eastern White, but not standard for Western Red.

Pacific Coast Cedar Products: Pacific Coast follows all CSSB grading rules, that is, a #1-2-3 model and the industry standard for Western Red Cedar.

  • #1 Western Red Cedar will be 100% vertical grain.

  • #2 Western Red Cedar does allow for some flat grains.

Specs

Teal Jones:

  • R&R shingles tend to be thinner than the industry standard set by the CSSB.

  • Grooves and sanding for the face of shingles start 4” from the tip of the shingle. Grooves tend to be shallow.

  • Grooves can vary significantly based on the machinery used for that run.

Pacific Coast Cedar Products:

  • Excellent adherence to CSSB industry standards.

  • Grooves and sanding start no more than 2 inches from the tip of the shingle. Grooves are uniform in depth.

  • CSSB rules do not allow any flat grain.

  • Well-tuned, consistent machines mean less variation between mill runs.

Finished options

Teal Jones: Teal uses the industry standard of gray primer. Cloverdale Paints is their supplier.

Pacific Coast Cedar Products: Both gray and white primer are readily available. PCCP is also supplied by Cloverdale Paints.
